School Counseling

The comprehensive school counseling program at QSI Suriname is dedicated to supporting the academic, social-emotional, college and career, and personal development of every student. We believe that students thrive when they feel safe, supported, connected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Our counseling services are designed to partner with students, families, teachers, and administrators to help students navigate challenges, build resilience, and successfully plan for their futures.

Services Provided

Academic Counseling

We help students:

Develop effective study skills and organizational strategies
Set academic goals and monitor progress
Navigate transitions between grade levels
Build self-advocacy skills
Address academic concerns and learning challenges
Explore course selections and educational opportunities

High School Course Planning

Four-year academic planning
Graduation requirements
Advanced Placement coursework planning (if applicable)

Social and Emotional Support

Students may meet with the counselor to discuss:

Friendship and peer relationship concerns
Emotional regulation and stress management
Anxiety, school adjustment, and transitions
Conflict resolution
Self-esteem and personal growth
Family or life changes affecting school performance

The counselor provides short-term support and consultation. When appropriate, families may be referred to outside mental health professionals for specialized services.

College and Career Counseling

The counseling department guides students and families through post-secondary planning, including:

Researching universities worldwide
Studielink and Dutch university applications
UCAS applications for the United Kingdom
Common App applications for the United States
Application timelines and deadlines
